MORRIS 8/40 in AUSTRALIA by Kerry Kaehne
Kerry Kaehne's passion for the Morris 8/40 is well known in the club and it is reinforced by the publication of his recent book on the origins, variants and achievements of Lord Nuffields Little Gem We are fortunate to have a copy of the Railmac Publication of Kerry's book in our Club Library and it forms the basis for our review.
60 pages of extensive research by Kerry has resulted in one of the best books on a single model of any car I have ever had the privilege of reading. He covers 8/40 models produced from 1935 to 1948 in painstaking detail. From the origins of the 8/40 in 1935 through its distribution in Australia, its achievements in competition, the clubs it has spawned up to the "After Market Equipment" produced locally. There is a wealth of information for the 8/40 enthusiast. The section on "Bygone Days" is particularly interesting and the "8/40 paraphernalia" section is sprinkled with facsimiles of sales brochures, road tests, advertisements and price lists from the period. This is one book the Morris 8/40 enthusiasists MUST have on his or her bookshelf.

THE MORRIS MOTORCAR 1913 - 1983 by Harry Edwards
Harry Edwards was probably the most knowledgeable person on the Morris the world has ever known in recent times. This review from our library shelves is a fitting tribute to his dedication to the subject of the marque from its beginnings up to the publication date of 1983.
Almost 350 pages of amazing facts, figures and pictures pertaining to Morris vehicles between the years mentioned on the cover, the book is a veritable bible for the Morris enthusiast.
Of particular value are the tables giving chassis numbers, engine types and specifications, standard colour schemes and a magazine bibliography listing sources of contemporary road tests and reports. An extremely comprehensive Index in the back of the book make the publication an ideal reference for the keen Morris researcher. If ever any copies of the book appear for sale on eBay, Amazon.com or anywhere else, there will surely be a scamble to purchase a copy for the bookshelves of any serious Morris enthusiast. |

BAY TO BIRDWOOD RUN 1980 - 2010 by William Hall Watson
| Once again we have an author among our members. This time Bill Watson has produced an excellent book on the history of the Bay To Birdwood Run. A run that most of us have participated in at one time or another. A soft cover A4 book of a little under 200 pages crammed full of glorious colour pictures illustrating aspects of the event spanning the years from the run's inception in 1980 up to the 2010 event. With a forward by Sir Eric Neal and concluding with a snapshot of Bill's life and literary achievements. The rest of the book is divided into chapters covering each of the runs in such a way that two events are described in each chapter leading up to the Anniversary in Chapter 9.
There is a copy of Bill's book in our library and as Editor I have purchased a copy myself and am finding it difficult to put it down. It is a great read and you may even catch a glimpse of yourself among the colour pictures. I can thoroughly recommend members to borrow our Library copy or contact Bill directly on bijo431@bigpond.com and purchase your own copy of SA motoring history. | |
